In an official statement, the Super Eagles of Nigeria confirmed that the squad would be without another star player ahead of the World Cup 2026 qualifiers.

Following the confirmation of the absence of Victor Osimhen for Nigeria ahead of the World Cup 2026 qualifiers, the official account of the Super Eagles has confirmed that the team will also miss out on another player Nathan Tella ahead of the fixtures in June 2024.

Ibrahim Olawoyin, a standout player for Caykur Rizespor in Turkey, has been selected to replace Nathan Tella in Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin. This change comes after Tella, who plays a crucial role in the Super Eagles team, withdrew from the upcoming matches due to family reasons. The information was confirmed through the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Super Eagles.

The statement read, “WCQ Camp Update: Nathan Tella of Bayer Leverkusen has excused himself from the upcoming WCQ matches due to family reasons. Coach Finidi George has now called up Ibrahim Olawoyin of Caykur Rizespor of Turkey.”

The Super Eagles are aiming to secure important points as they seek to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The Nigerian team will depend on their depth and adaptability as they confront the tough challenges presented by South Africa and Benin.
