Arsenal target top Premier League striker ahead of January 2025 transfer window

Reports now indicate that Arsenal have begun to make plans for the January 2025 transfer window with a top Premier League striker as their main target.

Reports indicate that Arsenal have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak in the January 2025 transfer window, as contract extension talks between the player and his current club have stalled.

Isak, who has been on Arsenal’s radar, initially joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 and has since netted several Premier League goals in his 58 appearances. Despite having three years left on his six-year deal set to expire in 2028, Isak’s future at St James’ Park now appears uncertain.

According to the Daily Mail, negotiations between Isak and Newcastle began towards the end of last season but have now collapsed, with the club reportedly believing that the striker was ‘reluctant to commit’ to an extended stay.

The Swedish international is said to be eager to play Champions League football and has expressed concerns about the pace of Newcastle’s progress towards achieving that goal.

Should Newcastle fail to secure a top-four finish this season, Isak could potentially look for a move away, a scenario Arsenal might aim to capitalize on. Several clubs are also eyeing the 24-year-old, whose desire for elite European competition remains strong.

Newcastle’s head of recruitment, Paul Mitchell, hinted last month that the club might be forced to offload key players in the near future due to financial constraints. In his statement, Mitchell revealed, “We can’t continue doing what we have over the last two and a half years solely relying on capital funding without selling players. We’ve made tremendous progress thanks to the hard work of many, including Eddie and Darren Eales, but we still need to balance our approach to maintain our growth.”

Arsenal will be closely monitoring Isak’s situation as they consider making a move for the prolific striker.
