Australian jazz-pop group Extra Time has released the fourth video from their celebrated album, Songs With Long Titles. Titled It’s Time, the single is brought to life through a striking animation by Brazilian videographer Gabriel Gareso, adding visual depth to the song’s thought-provoking message.

It’s Time explores the flaws of modern Western democracy, highlighting the lack of real choice available to voters under the influence of entrenched political party machines. The song critiques the outdated systems that govern elections and legislatures, questioning why these institutions remain resistant to change in a digital age where innovation thrives elsewhere.

Inspired by Boss Tweed’s infamous declaration—“I don’t care who does the electing, so long as I do the nominating”—the lyrics dissect the systemic rigging of democracy, where voters are left flipping a coin every four years between two seemingly indistinguishable options. The band raises timely questions about political reform, urging listeners to imagine a future where technology empowers citizens to have a greater say in legislative decisions.

The album Songs With Long Titles, Extra Time’s second studio release, is a testament to their musical sophistication. Described as a fusion of Steely Dan, Supertramp, and Sting, the album blends jazz, blues, and rock influences into an engaging collection of stories about life, passion, and societal reflection. Recorded live to 2” tape at Damien Gerard Studios in West Gosford, the album eschews modern production techniques like click tracks, grids, and autotune, embracing authentic live performances to deliver a timeless sound.

Lyricist and composer Brendan McNamara collaborated with Los Angeles-based co-producer Andrew Beck to craft this unique project. Their dedication to organic, high-quality production has drawn international acclaim, with the double gatefold vinyl release of Songs With Long Titles earning glowing reviews.

It’s Time is a rallying call to reimagine how democracy functions in the 21st century. Watch the animated video today and immerse yourself in Extra Time’s bold, thought-provoking artistry.
