Rolling Stone has just released a list of its best albums of 2024 so far. The list contains albums released in 2024 that have met certain criteria and standards in terms of quality and excellence.
African music was duly represented on the chart with four major African albums finding their way to the list.
Nigerian born superstar Rema was the only African male superstar present on the list with his sophomore album HEIS.
The other Africans that made it to the list were Tems with her debut album Born In The Wild. Ayra Starr’s The Year I Turned 21 also made the list as well as Tyla’s Tyla.
With Three Nigerians on the list, Afrobeats seems to be doing good for itself in terms of putting out quality music for the rest of the world to consume. Three women making up the four people representing Africa is also a very big statement from the women in music.
With more albums teased from Afrobeats heavyweights like Wizkid, Omah Lay & Burna Boy, one can only assume that the list would have more and more Afrobeats superstars on it when it’s updated in December.
