Ayra Starr has been revealed as an artist set to make her acting debut in an upcoming movie alongside top stars like Viola Davis.

Nigerian singer-songwriter Ayra Starr has been cast in the upcoming film adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s best-selling novel, Children of Blood and Bone, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood.  This casting marks a significant milestone in Starr’s career, transitioning from music to the silver screen.

Children of Blood and Bone is set in a richly imagined African fantasy kingdom where a young woman embarks on a quest to restore magic to her people. The narrative delves into themes of oppression, heritage, and resilience, drawing inspiration from West African mythology.

The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including Thuso Mbedu, Amandla Stenberg, Damson Idris, Tosin Cole, Viola Davis, Cynthia Erivo, Idris Elba, Lashana Lynch, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The addition of Ayra Starr, alongside other Nigerian talents like Richard Mofe-Damijo, underscores the production’s commitment to authentic representation.

Gina Prince-Bythewood, known for her work on The Woman King and The Old Guard, expressed her enthusiasm about the casting choices, stating, “I am so honored and excited to bring Tomi’s Children of Blood and Bone and the vibrant world of Orïsha to life. Our incredible ensemble reflects the whole of the diaspora. This is where our magic lies.”

Fans eagerly anticipate her performance in the film, which is scheduled for a theatrical release in 2027.
