The hope of Manchester United supporters to see Carlos Baleba play at Old Trafford this season was dashed after Brighton rejected their bid.

Carlos Baleba has been on the radar of Manchester United as they need a player who fits the number 6 role at the club. They had initially agreed on personal terms with the Cameroonian international but this update means they will have to look elsewhere for a replacement.

Manchester United had initially held talks with Brighton via intermediaries on behalf of United before the clubs had a direct conversation. The Seagulls made it clear they do not intend to sell Baleba this summer and plan to retain him for at least another season.

Baleba made 40 appearances in all competitions for Brighton last season, scoring four goals and providing two assists. He joined Brighton from French club Lille in August 2023 in a transfer worth just under £26m with add-ons and has gone on to make 77 appearances for the south coast side.

Joao Pedro, Simon Adingra and Pervis Estupinan have all left Brighton permanently this summer, joining Chelsea, Sunderland and Milan respectively, while striker Evan Ferguson has signed for Roma on loan.

Manuel Ugrate, Mason Mount, and Casemiro are expected to take bathe of United’s fill in the role going into the season.
