Ever since he became the African Giant, Burna Boy has been the talk of the media for a while, always being in the news for one reason or the other. This year has been no different. Even though he dropped just two singles this year, it was a busy one for the Afrobeats superstar as he was always making the headlines. From his rift with Speed Darlington to his new found love with Chloe Bailey, the other side of Burna’s life apart from the music is always available to the public.
His relationship with Chloe Bailey is the latest icing on the cake as the pair have been spotted everywhere together recently. At first, people wondered why Chloe Bailey was in Lagos for December, asking if it was another episode of black American celebrities taking advantage of the large population in Nigeria and also our online presence. However, many were surprised to see her with Burna Boy, and were further thrown into more confusion when they were pictured in positions that could leave impressions and start discussions at Obi’s House.
Ever since then, Chloe has been everywhere Burna is, and rumor has it that they’re dating. Sources close to the pair claim they’ve been dating since the middle of the year, and are just deciding to make it known to the public.
This is however very weird, and raises questions. First of all, I’m not sold on the idea that Burna would allow “Lagos paparazzi” get so close to him on a normal day, let alone when he’s with his woman. Something’s not adding up. This is someone that’s known for booting phones and hitting fans who get too close, and all of a sudden the internet is filled with close up videos of his lover and himself. There’s no way that those kind of videos are getting out of his camp without a word allowing them to do so.
Burna keeps a close circle, and surrounds himself with strong figures every time. His daily life isn’t so available, and fans only get his other side when he’s either fighting someone or facing politicians. Even when he was with Stefflon Don and Jada Kingdom, we didn’t get to see him with them like this. So, this is different. The massive flow of material is authorized, and that calls for my next question. Why?
Is this a PR move to gain media attention? Is it a rebranding phase for future purposes? This isn’t the Burna Boy we know, so what’s behind this new move? What’s the end goal? Is it even real, or we are witnessing staged romance by a professional actor and a music legend? Is Burna Boy in love, or he’s putting his career first?
