Legendary producer ID Cabasa recently appeared on the Afrobeats Podcast to debunk a popular misconception.
Fans might credit Burna Boy with sparking the trend of live bands in Afrobeats performances, but Cabasa begs to differ. With the authority of someone who’s been in the industry since the early 2000s, Cabasa dropped some knowledge bombs. He pointed out that artists like 2Baba and 9ice were already rocking stages with full bands way before Burna Boy hit the scene.
He then reeled off a list of other heavyweights who embraced the live band experience, including D’banj, Olamide and others. This isn’t the first time Cabasa has offered his unfiltered opinions on the Afrobeats landscape. The man also said that the new generation of artists should respect the legends in the industry.
