On February 19, Burna Boy dropped a new track “Update,” confirming his forthcoming 2025 album. The single will be part of his eighth studio album, No Sign of Weakness, featuring a compilation of new and previously released tracks for fans. Songs on the new project feature the Grammy-nominated “Higher” and “Bundle by Bundle,” released in December 2024.
Burna Boy cleared all his posts on Instagram a day before dropping his latest track “Update.” It’s a usual trick by artists to generate anticipation for upcoming releases.
The artist shocked fans by dropping a new single, “Update,” out of nowhere. The track paves the way for his forthcoming album, No Sign of Weakness, due later this year. Burna Boy interpolates the 1989 “Back to Life (However Do You Want Me)” by Soul II Soul, which made an indelible mark with its blend of dance, R&B, and British soul.
“Update” is not the typical Burna Boy track that dominates the charts. Lyrically, it feels weaker, with Burna Boy seemingly focusing more on experimenting with the beat rather than delivering impactful lyrics. The two earlier releases from his ‘No Sign of Weakness’ which are ‘Higher’ and ‘Bundle by Bundle’ received positive feedback from fans and received accolades for the songs, Higher was nominated for ‘Best Africa Music Performance’ at the 2025 Grammys while Bundle By Bundle was among the songs that took over most December party.
‘Update’ wasn’t strong enough; Burna Boy performed well but not as powerfully as expected. The song, which was produced by P2J, includes infectious African folk drums that heighten its rhythmic appeal. On “Update,” Burna Boy sings about his triumphant success as a standout celebrity in the music world. He openly declares his success and wealth with, “On a normal day, them no fit touch my energy (Kúrò n be)” and “Na my fruit of labor ni, every day, I dey spray money.” He says it in the song, singing “To ba tele mi lo, my lady. You go see say, aye nbe l’ókè (L’Eko)”, a subtle admission of his profound love for a special lady. This strengthens his image as a lover who loves to pamper his woman, making her feel special and loved in every instance they have.
The single is accompanied by a captivating music video, expertly directed by UAX. Burna Boy delivers energetic dance moves that keep the audience engaged throughout this visually striking production. The video features several clips of Burna Boy during the Detty December period in Nigeria, with a standout moment being his romantic scenes with American singer Chloe Bailey, where they are seen all loved-up in the video.
One key takeaway from the rollout of his upcoming album is that, of the three singles released so far, Burna Boy has dropped visuals for all of them. This clearly shows that the African Giant is not holding back in his approach.
Burna Boy is looking to extend his phenomenal business success in music with no sign of slowing down just as the title of his 2025 album ‘No Sign of Weakness’.
