Following an unexpected draw against Zimbabwe on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, the chances of the Super Eagles securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup have been categorised to have become slimmer. An analysis of the chances of securing a qualification have emerged and from all indications it is next to none.

Africa has been granted 9 automatic qualification spots for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Beyond that, an additional 1 African team will have the chance to secure a spot through the inter-confederation playoffs, potentially boosting Africa’s total representation to 10 teams at the tournament.
