Chelsea confirm the appointment of Enzo Maresca

Chelsea Football Club have confirmed the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the new head coach of the club as a replacement for Mauricio Pochettino ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The announcement was made on the official website of the Blues on Monday, June 3, 2024, after a list of managers were shortlisted for the job. According to an express from Chelsea, Enzo Maresca signed a five-year-deal which will keep him at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2029 with an optionto extend by an extra year.

What did Enzo Maresca say about his appointment at Chelsea?

He expressed his delight and excitement concerning his new deal with the two-time UEFA Champions League winners. He also mentioned that he would look forward to meeting with the fans and the players.

“To join Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, is a dream for any coach. It is why I am so excited by this opportunity. I look forward to working with a very talented group of players and staff to develop a team that continues the club’s tradition of success and makes our fans proud.”

What you should know about Enzo Maresca?

Maresca is a former West Bromwich Albion midfielder, he also played for clubs in Italy, Spain and Greece.After spending the 2020/21 season in charge of Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad, where he steered them to the Premier League 2 title, he had a spell in charge of Parma before returning to Man City in June 2022 as one of Pep Guardiola’s assistants.

He was the manager of Leicester City last summer and ensured they gained promotion at the first attempt, leading the Foxes back to the Premier League after their relegation in 2022/23.

Enzo Maresca’s staff will include former goalkeeper Willy Caballero, Danny Walker, Michele De Bernardin, Marcos Alvarez, Javi Molina and Roberto Vitiello. Ben Roberts will join the staff as goalkeeper coach and has been appointed to the role of head of global goalkeeping.Bernardo Cueva will lead the set-piece department.

Maresca is expected to meet the players first week in July 2024 when they return for the 2024/25 pre-season.
