Chelsea Football Club have reportedly opened talks with Olympique Lyon midfielder Malick Fofana as they look to find a perfect replacement for Jadon Sancho.
The Athletic confirmed on its official website on Monday, June 16, 2025 that Chelsea have made an inquiry on the availability of Malick Fofana. The 20-year-old is on the radar of the Blues as they look to bring in a top winger before the end of the 2025 transfer window.
Who is Malick Fofana?
Malick Fofana joined Lyon from Belgian side Gent in January 2024 and he is contracted to the Ligue 1 club until 2028. He scored 11 goals and provided six assists across 41 appearances in all competitions during the 2024-25 season.
They also made an approach to sign Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund before the Club World Cup in their quest to sign a replacement for Sancho. However they could not reach a deal before the pre-tournament transfer window ended on June 10, 2025.
The Blues were able to complete the deal for Liam Delap from Ipswich Town before the start of the Club World Cup.
