American R&B star Chris Brown has been granted bail by a London court following charges of serious assault linked to a nightclub incident in 2023.

The 36-year-old singer was accused of assaulting music producer Abraham Diaw with a tequila bottle at a London nightclub, causing grievous bodily harm. The case resurfaced when Brown, who had not returned to the UK since the incident, was arrested about a week ago at a hotel in Manchester.

Initially denied bail on Friday, May 16, 2025, the singer’s fortunes changed on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, when Judge Tony Baumgartner of Southwark Crown Court approved his release under strict conditions. One of the major terms of his bail includes a hefty security fee of $6.7 million (approximately ₦10.6 billion), with $5.3 million required to be paid immediately and the remaining balance due within seven days.

Despite the assault and legal troubles in London, the court’s decision allows Chris Brown to proceed with his highly anticipated Breezy Bowl XX tour, which is scheduled to begin on June 8, 2025, in the Netherlands.

The incident and ongoing case have attracted significant public and media attention, adding another chapter to the controversial singer’s long history of legal challenges.
