Following the recent release of their visceral and whimsical “U Wanna?” music video, Coasters are now back with brand new track called “throw me down the stairs” and it’s, quite simply, beautiful.
Incorporating the simple yet devastating sound that Coasters are known for, a downcast cello bow forms the foundation of this bare and gentle offering. This paired with the lilting nature of Katarina Staines’ vocal delivery, which feels almost like a children’s limerick, and Luke Verrezen’s gentle acoustic riffs offer a raw and intimate lo-fi sound—like they’re sitting in the room right next to you.
Exploring themes of loneliness, “throw me down the stairs” feels almost like the sister track to “Tell Me Again” taken from their 2023 EP Heartbreak Looks Good On You.
There’s a very clear, interconnected thread running through their music, and the result is brilliantly cohesive, mature far beyond their years. For a DIY-duo like Coasters, their sound shouldn’t be as well-realised as it already is, and we simply can’t get enough.
“throw me down the stairs” is the final single before the release of their highly anticipate debut album, and you can also keep your eyes peeled for an Elven themed music video shot entirely on a camcorder, playing with the concept of an Elf Rumspringa.
Until then, enjoy this sweet, sweet song.
