Nigerian singer Crayon has bravely shared his journey through depression and the pivotal support he received from friends in the music industry during his darkest days. In a candid interview with YouTuber Korty EO, Crayon recounted the emotional turmoil he faced in 2020, when none of his songs gained traction, leaving him feeling lost and overwhelmed.
Reflecting on that challenging time, he revealed, “I started acting out crazily,” a situation that ultimately led to his hospitalization in a psychiatric facility. “At some point, I wanted to jump out of a moving car. It was that crazy. It was similar to Mohbad’s situation.”
Crayon described a particularly harrowing incident during a beach house party, where his mental state began to spiral. “My manager noticed something was off, and I told him I’d only taken weed,” he recounted. His erratic behavior escalated, prompting him to return home and call his friend Rema.

Feeling compelled to seek help, Crayon walked barefoot to Mavin Studios, overwhelmed by despair. “I got to the gate of Mavin Records, sat on the floor, and said I was tired. I took off my shirt and smashed my phone,” he shared. It was during this moment that Rema arrived and reassured him, saying, “Once you pass this stage, you will come out and this is the final battle you’re about to fight.”
Crayon admitted he was in a fragile state, unable to recognize those around him. “I literally lost my mind, fighting wars nobody could see,” he explained, before being taken to a psychiatric hospital in Lekki, Lagos.
Fortunately, with the unwavering support of friends like Rema and Mavin Records’ boss Don Jazzy, Crayon found the strength to heal. “They didn’t publicize it but protected me,” he said, recalling the deep prayers from his friends during his recovery. “To me, Mavin is not just a label; it is everything to me. They took care of me in my darkest time.”

Emerging from this experience, Crayon saw a profound change in his outlook on life. “I started seeing people differently, loving life more,” he noted. This newfound perspective ushered in a successful phase in his career.

Looking back, Crayon reflected on 2020 as the “darkest year” of his life but emphasized that it also marked a turning point. Since signing with Mavin Records in 2019 and releasing his debut EP, Crayon has continued to rise in the music scene, solidifying his place as a prominent artist with multiple hits to his name, including “So Fine,” “Ijo Labalaba,”, ” Ngozi” and “Tete.”
