Cynthia Morgan weighs in on Tinubu’s government

Nigerian singer Cynthia Morgan, also known as Madrina, has offered a contrasting opinion on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration amid ongoing public criticism.

Her comments come in response to the viral video of a Lagos-based NYSC member who recently slammed Tinubu’s government, calling it “terrible” due to the rising cost of living. The corps member’s remarks also led to claims of alleged threats from NYSC officials, sparking reactions from Nigerians, including comedian Mr Macaroni.

In a series of Instagram story posts, Cynthia Morgan acknowledged the country’s current economic challenges but argued that Tinubu is not the worst president in Nigeria’s history. She referenced the book Soldier of Fortune by Max Siollun to support her stance.

However, Cynthia Morgan criticized the full removal of fuel subsidies in President Tinubu’s administration, stating that while it was a significant move, it could have been handled differently.

“Tinubu is not the most terrible president Nigeria ever had, but nevertheless, removing 100 percent of subsidy was a terrible move,” she wrote. “It is not too late to do something, though. At least if fuel is ₦500, the cost of living will reduce. It’s only right we ease into total subsidy removal with the right development and infrastructure to sustain such decisions. A baby can’t go from milk to yam in just a day. Abeg consider us,” she added.

Her statement has sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians debating whether her perspective aligns with the reality of the economic crisis.
