Da L.E.S Opens Up About Surviving A Stroke. South African hip-hop icon Da L.E.S has broken his silence following a near-death experience that shook both his personal life and the entertainment industry. In a candid message, the rapper revealed that he suffered a stroke on his birthday in July 2024, an event that left him unconscious for a month.

Da L.E.S Opens Up About Surviving A Stroke

“I suffered a stroke, and people thought I was going to die, but I made it,” Da L.E.S shared. “I feel good. I’m so happy that I’m still here.”

The “Heaven” hitmaker, known for his lavish lifestyle and chart-topping collaborations, is now embracing a new mission: to inspire others by documenting his recovery journey and raising awareness about the fragility of life.

“People wanna know what’s wrong with me? Well, I want to help—because sht is real, sht can happen to anybody. One minute you’re cool, the next you experience the worst.”

The rapper described waking up a month after the stroke, shocked but grateful to still be alive. The experience, he said, has changed his life entirely—but not ended it. “I feel like my life has changed, but it ain’t the end. This is bigger than me and I got to do this.”

Da L.E.S, who has often lived life in the spotlight, is now choosing to open up in the most vulnerable way: filming his recovery and spiritual transformation, not for fame, but for impact.

“The whole purpose of me filming is to let y’all into my life—the real way. I think also just to inspire. One of your kids, you’re going to get help through this.”

While the public had speculated about his condition, with some even fearing the worst, Da L.E.S wants to make it clear: he’s alive, he’s healing, and he’s not done yet.

“So y’all thought I was dead huh? I’m just lucky to be alive. Real talk. Shout out to all the people who came out. But now I need to get fixed.”

As he begins this next chapter—one grounded in truth and testimony—Da L.E.S is not only reclaiming his health but redefining his purpose. “I’m just going with the flow. When sh*t like this happens, it’s nothing you can control, you know?”
