Fast rising Afropop and Afrofusion Nigerian artiste, Ifeanyi Chineme Lenton Akandu, known professionally as Dai Verse, has shared details of his challenges within the music industry.
Speaking in an interview on the Big Friday Show with media personality, Tacha Akide that surfaced online on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, the artist, who gained rapid fame as one of Nigeria’s hottest new talents, revealed that his career faced obstacles due to issues with his management and label.
Dai Verse explained that his management was primarily focused on financial gain rather than his artistic growth, which led to a series of complications. “It was more of a bad management and labor thing because even if you have a management, the management is supposed to work for you,” he said.
“They didn’t let me know the whole content of the deal and because I was shuffling between school and music at the time, I didn’t concentrate enough to know what the deal entailed before I put my signature on it because I trusted them,” He added.
His involvement with Empawa Music, the record label founded by Mr. Eazi, further complicated matters. The Your Body (Cocaine) hitmaker mentioned the presence of many parties with vested financial interests and an undisclosed issue with the deal, which ultimately led to his decision to leave his management. This downturn occurred in 2022, causing him to pause and reassess his situation.
Despite these setbacks, Dai Verse has been able to bounce back. He recently released a new song titled Salt earlier this year. The track reflects his journey and the challenges he has faced. “The song is just talking about my downtime. It’s just me saying, ‘God, this part you have put me on, it’s not really easy, but we go do am regardless because na you actually put me on this part.'”
The artist credits his mother’s prayers and support as key factors that helped him navigate through his difficulties. She continuously offered words of encouragement during his struggles.
As he continues to grow and learn from his experiences, fans can expect to hear more inspiring music from Dai Verse in the future.
