Afrobeats star Davido has offered a humorous yet insightful explanation behind one of the most talked-about lines in his hit track Funds.

In an interview with MixMag, the artist clarified the meaning of the line “I suppose relocate, but I go buy Belgium,” which has sparked curiosity among fans since the song’s release.

Davido revealed that the line reflects a common situation where someone considers relocating due to financial constraints. “You know when you’re somewhere, and you’re meant to relocate because you can’t afford the price of living in that place?” he explained. “But then God blesses you and you hammer [suddenly come into a lot of money], so you’re saying, ‘I suppose relocate o, because money no dey, but now I get enough money to buy Belgium.’”

When asked why he specifically mentioned Belgium, Davido responded with a lighthearted chuckle: “I don’t know!” It seems the choice of Belgium was more about expressing the sudden, almost surreal abundance of wealth, rather than any particular connection to the country itself.

The track, Funds, is part of the latest EP, 5ive of Davido, which has already made waves for its catchy beats and relatable lyrics. The explanation adds another layer of charm to the song, showcasing the artist’s playful approach to songwriting while reflecting on the unpredictable nature of success and fortune.
