Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has described the death of his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, as a life-changing experience that reshaped his outlook on life and music.
The singer and his wife, Chioma Adeleke, tragically lost their three-year-old son in October 2022 after he drowned in a swimming pool at their Banana Island residence in Lagos State.
In a recent interview with ABC News’ Rocsi Diaz, Davido reflected on the devastating death of his son, explaining that it forced him to reassess his priorities and redefine the direction of his career.
“Stepping away after losing my son and being able to look back into my career gave me a refocus of how I wanted to move going forward. It changed my life,” he said.
The multiple award-winning artist expressed pride in how he and Chioma handled the tragedy, noting that their resilience has inspired many. He revealed that strangers often approach him, sometimes at airports, to thank him for giving them strength during their own difficult times.
“I was telling my wife the other day that I’m proud of how we bounced back. Now, we got twins. They are big and shouting everywhere. For us to be able to go through the loss of our son and be able to bounce back in a major way is huge,” Davido added.
The singer’s candid remarks come as he continues his global 5 Alive tour, marking both a personal and professional chapter defined by resilience and renewed purpose.
