Nigerian singer and billionaire heir Davido has opened up about his past collaborations with international artists Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj in a recent interview.
Before talking about Nicki Minaj, Davido shared that during his collaboration with Chris Brown on their hit song, the American singer encouraged him to use his African accent, despite Davido’s attempts to adopt an American accent. According to Davido, Chris Brown told him to “speak with your African accent, it’s cool.” Davido’s willingness to take Chris Brown’s advice paid off, as the song earned him a Grammy nomination.
Davido also credited himself with introducing Lojay to Chris Brown, which led to Lojay’s first Grammy nomination. In a lighthearted jab, Davido joked about how Lojay achieved a Grammy nomination in just four years, while he has been in the industry for 14 years with only two nominations.
Additionally, Davido revealed that Nicki Minaj gave him 30 minutes of her time on the phone as they discussed a new collaborative project. Davido emphasized that 30 minutes is a significant amount of time for someone of Nicki Minaj’s stature, implying that it’s proof of the respect she has for him as an artist.
