Afrobeat sensation Davido revealed an unexpected detail about his breakout hit Dami Duro that left many stunned.
In a recent interview on Power 105.1 FM, Nigerian Afrobeat artist Davido shared an interesting story behind his breakthrough song Dami Duro. The artist revealed that the song not only marked a turning point in his career but also caught the attention of former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, who, according to Davido, had the track as his ringtone.
Davido recalled how his father initially disapproved of his music career, even going as far as using the police and military to stop his performances. However, everything changed when Dami Duro became a massive hit, and word spread that the former president was using the song as his ringtone.
“The song blew up, and someone told me it was the president’s ringtone,” Davido said. “At that point, people started advising my dad to let me pursue music.”
The 30BG boss also explained how this success led to a shift in his relationship with his father. Before the song’s success, Davido’s dad had been distant and strict about his musical ambitions, but after the song gained national recognition, their bond strengthened. “Now, we are best friends,” he added. “We talk about everything. He comes to all my shows. He’s very involved in my business.”
This revelation highlights the pivotal moment when Dami Duro helped solidify Davido’s music career and changed his family dynamics, leading to his father’s eventual full support.
