Asa Asika, manager of Nigerian singer, Davido, has shed light on the absence of recent collaborations between Davido and fellow top musicians, Wizkid and Burna Boy.

During a guest appearance on the Ventes Rap show that surfaced online on Monday, April 22, 2024, Asa addressed inquiries regarding Davido’s apparent lack of musical partnerships with his renowned colleagues.

The interviewer queried, “How come we don’t see Davido featuring Burna Boy or Wizkid?” In response, Asa sidestepped a direct answer, instead emphasizing the collaborations that have occurred within the Nigerian music scene. He highlighted existing collaborations such as Davido with Kizz Daniel, Burna Boy with Wizkid, and Davido with Olamide, as well as Asake‘s involvement in Davido’s album.

In his words, “There have been collaborations, Burna Boy and Wizkid have a song, Davido and Kizz Daniel have a song, Davido and Olamide have a song, Asake is on David’s album, so the big artistes in Nigeria work, they might not collaborate as often but they definitely do. Collaboration is one of the major things that have pushed Afrobeats to where it is.”

Asserting the significance of collaborations in advancing Afrobeats, Asa pointed out the trend of Latin American musicians frequently collaborating on songs, contrasting it with the less frequent collaborations among Nigerian artists. He stated, “You probably will never get a song that has Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Asake, all on one song, that’s not really Afrobeat’s style.”

Asa’s remarks offer insights into the dynamics of collaboration within the Nigerian music industry, emphasizing the importance of partnerships in propelling the genre to its current prominence.
