Nigerian disc jockey and activist, Obianuju Catherine Udeh, popularly known as DJ Switch, has reacted to the news of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s death.

Buhari reportedly passed away in London on Sunday, July 13, 2025, after a prolonged battle with an undisclosed illness.

In response to the announcement of former President Buhari’s death, DJ Switch took to social media with a terse message that read: “Wow! The sweet reality of inevitability. RIP MF. One down.”

Her comment, widely seen as mocking and celebratory, triggered heavy criticism online. Many social media users accused her of lacking empathy and showing disrespect towards the deceased.

In a follow-up video, DJ Switch responded to the backlash, standing firmly by her words. She questioned why some Nigerians were quick to pay respects to a leader she believes left the country worse off.

“What exactly did Buhari achieve apart from ruining Nigeria?” she asked. “When a leader governs poorly, people will celebrate their death. But when you rule with fairness, the people will mourn you when you’re gone.”

Addressing those questioning her empathy, DJ Switch said she had no apologies to make, describing the former president’s death as a form of justice. “I don’t owe anyone proof of my empathy. That news felt like justice to me. Next on the list, T-Pain, how far?” she added, though it’s unclear who she was referring to with the name.

Meanwhile, DJ Switch, who became a prominent voice during the #EndSARS protests in 2020, gained national and international attention for livestreaming the controversial shooting of peaceful protesters by Nigerian Army personnel at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos. Her outspoken stance on human rights issues and criticism of the Buhari-led administration made her one of the most vocal figures of that period.
