Veteran Nigerian singer Eedris Abdulkareem has responded strongly to the federal government’s ban on his latest protest song, Tell Your Papa.
Veteran rapper Eedris Abdulkareem has criticized the federal government for banning his protest song Tell Your Papa, describing the move as an attack on free expression and a sign of intolerance to dissent.
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) recently issued a directive prohibiting radio and television stations from airing the politically charged song, citing its “objectionable nature” and alleged violation of broadcasting standards.
Taking to Instagram, the Jaga Jaga crooner criticized the action, describing it as yet another example of how Nigeria punishes constructive criticism. He condemned President Bola Tinubu’s administration as “insensitive, vindictive, and grossly maleficent,” claiming it has produced poor results across all sectors.
Eedris Abdulkareem also expressed frustration at those who continue to support the current government, referring to them as “happy slaves grovelling for crumbs from their paymaster’s table.”
Reflecting on the past, the singer recalled that his 2004 hit Jaga Jaga was similarly banned during Olusegun Obasanjo’s presidency, pointing out that little has changed in the political landscape over the years. He concluded by stating that the continued stifling of dissent highlights Nigeria’s ongoing struggle with free expression and accountability.
