The June 2024 transfer window for both men’s and women’s club football has reached a new peak as a player from Chelsea has officially completed a move to Brighton.
In an official statement, Brighton confirmed the acquisition of Fran Kirby from the Chelsea Women’s team on a free transfer following the expiration of her contract with the Blues at the end of the 2023/2024 season.
Fran Kirby who was an important figure for Chelsea shared her thoughts on the move. She stated, “I’d love to go to another Euros but I will never base my decision on the future. For me it’s what’s right for me now and where I feel like I’m going to get the best out of myself. Being close to home and being at a club that wants to push the women’s game is something I wanted to do. For me if I feel valued in an environment then I know I’m going to get the best out of myself.”
Brighton praised their new addition, Fran Kirby, as “one of the most decorated English footballers of all time” following the Lionesses and Chelsea legend’s move on a free transfer. Kirby ended her nine-year, trophy-filled tenure with the London club when her contract expired at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.
