Omah Lay has sparked an intense debate on social media following his recent revelation from what many have categorised as a burner account.

Multiple award-winning singer and performer Omah Lay sparked an intense debate on social media following a series of text messages he shared with Mavin Records lead artist, Rema, revealed by the singer dating as far back as December 2023.

In the numerous screenshots of the text messages shared by the singer on an alter ego account (Story of an angel), it showed that both singers had exchanged ideas in terms of music. The account showed conversations and discussions of a possible collaboration, but what caught the eyes of many was the ‘mara’ recording shared by Omah Lay.

After the images of the chat, ‘The Story of an Angel’ referenced a publication where Rema’s new sound was categorised under the ‘Mara’ sound as well. This has sparked a debate on social media as music lovers could not help but recollect when Omah Lay revealed in August 2024 that his album idea was stolen, forcing him to rerecord a project he was already working on.

Did Omah Lay accuse Rema of stealing his album idea?

There has been no direct accusation from Omah Lay in regards to the artist who was his close friend that stole his album idea, but the caption of the post shared by ‘The Story of an Angel’ has led numerous fans to draw different connections.

The caption read, “With love, well-being, and clarity, 🐐 has now healed and forgiven himself—both from this wound and from others still unknown to the public. ☀️🕊️ Previously, 🐐 had canceled all concerts and postponed the release of new music to focus on his well-being. This break lasted until the Brussels Festival on June 28, where he first appeared noticeably unstable. For the last three years, 🐐 has been a major force of innovation in the genre even Without the release of new music. Now, with clarity, well-being, and peace of mind, 🐐 has resolved to spend the rest of his life using his “hobby time” to inflict the exact same level of trauma he has endured—on his enemies and on anyone who will or has tampered with his craft, thereby threatening the survival of his family and loved ones. Clarity of Mind — The State and the Album”

Popular producer Tempoe had also granted an interview where he addressed that Omah Lay’s project had indeed been stolen by another artist, thereby forcing him to re-record the project from scratch.

It remains to be seen if both singers will directly address the case, but fans have eagerly shown appreciation for Omah Lay’s future project.
