Extra Time has unveiled the third single from their widely praised album Songs With Long Titles. The new track, titled “The Boy Who Dreamed of the Stars,” is a deeply emotional and thought-provoking song that bravely tackles the sensitive subject of child abuse, shining a light on the ways in which predators lure vulnerable children— in this case, using a telescope and the promise of seeing the stars.
Vocalist and songwriter Brendan draws from his own childhood experience to craft this haunting yet poignant song. With personal vulnerability, Brendan hopes to bring healing and understanding through his art. “As a survivor of this situation, I finally wanted to address this subject through a song as my way of dealing with something that was buried a long way in my past,” said Brendan. “The song is an attempt to process this experience and deal positively with the trauma that life can bring, and hopefully still come out the other side.”
Brendan emphasizes that the song is not about seeking sympathy but rather offering insight into personal growth after trauma. “I’ve had a very good life, and the mistakes I’ve made are my own. My experience is in no way comparable to the terrible things happening in war zones or around the world. I had a bad day as a little kid, but I can count the bad days in my life on one hand.”
With its cinematic sound and harmonically rich pop composition, “The Boy Who Dreamed of the Stars” is more than a song—it’s a personal journey expressed through music, offering listeners a space for reflection and emotional connection.
The single is accompanied by a powerful visual that amplifies the message and impact of the song. Extra Time continues to push boundaries by blending intricate pop melodies with meaningful storytelling.
