Nigerian rapper, actor, and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has once again spoken out about the country’s persistent challenges, expressing frustration over Nigeria’s slow pace of development in 2025.
In a recent interview with HipTV, the outspoken entertainer lamented that, despite the passage of time, the country still struggles with basic infrastructure like electricity and proper drainage systems. He described the situation as embarrassing and unacceptable.
“The biggest thing practically speaking is the yield of electricity. It’s still wild. In 2025, we’re still dealing with up NEPA,” Falz said, referencing the well-known shout of excitement whenever power is restored in Nigerian homes, a long-standing symbol of the country’s unreliable electricity supply.
He also addressed the issue of poor drainage systems, saying: “Any small rainfall like this, we have to be swimming around. It’s shameful.”
Shifting his focus to the entertainment industry, Falz described it as “mad,” explaining that while it’s thriving creatively, many people working in it are struggling mentally. He emphasized the growing need for conversations around mental health, noting that “everyone has some degree of madness, it just varies.”
On a lighter note, the This Is Nigeria crooner shared a personal story about an embarrassing heartbreak. He recalled organizing a romantic dinner with flowers for someone he admired, only for her to turn him down at the end of the evening. “I thought we were on the same page, but apparently not,” he admitted.
Falz also reflected on the early days of his career, recalling how people initially credited his success to his famous father, human rights lawyer Femi Falana. “Eventually, I blew. I made a name for myself. Now when people see him, they’ll say, ‘Falz’s dad,’” he joked.
The interview with Falz has since sparked conversations online about Nigeria’s long-standing challenges including infrastructure issues.
