Popular Nigerian rapper, actor, and social activist, Folarin Falana, widely known as Falz, has shared his concerns about the prospect of raising his future children in Nigeria.
The entertainer revealed his reservations during a candid conversation on the Dear Ife Series Podcast, hosted by Ifedayo Agoro.
When asked whether he would consider raising his children in the country, Falz admitted it was a difficult question he hadn’t given much thought to. He expressed genuine worry about Nigeria’s persistent insecurity, economic instability, and the personal risks attached to his outspoken activism.
“That’s a deep question,” Falz responded. “I haven’t really thought that far, but it’s something I can’t immediately say ‘yes’ to because of what we’re dealing with – the insecurity, threats from my activism, and even the docility of Nigerians towards these issues.”
Despite his concerns, the Bop Daddy crooner, known for his strong pro-Nigerian stance, maintained a hopeful outlook about the country’s future, stating that while he can’t give a definite ‘yes,’ he also isn’t ready to completely rule it out.
“It’s so sad, but I can’t outrightly say ‘no’ either because I’m very pro-Nigerian and I believe we can still get it right. I don’t know, let’s see,” he added with a laugh.
Falz, who is currently single and yet to start a family, has been a vocal critic of government policies and social injustice in Nigeria, notably playing a frontline role in the #EndSARS protests and using his platform to advocate for human rights and accountability.
