Nigerian rapper and singer, Folarin Falana better known as Falz was among the many individuals affected by the nationwide strike action embarked upon by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) on Monday, June 3, 2024.
The strike, which grounded all government operations, including airport shutdowns, left Falz stranded in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, where he had gone to participate in a charity football match hosted by Super Eagles player, Troost Ekong.
Falz, who was scheduled to return to Lagos on Monday, June 3, 2024, took to social media to share his experience, revealing that he was unable to fly back to Lagos due to the airport shutdown. Despite his personal inconvenience, Falz expressed his support for the NLC’s demand for an increase in the minimum wage from N30,000 to N494,000. He praised the protesters for their courage and lambasted the government for its “irresponsible” behavior.
The strike action, which has paralyzed economic activities across the country, is a response to the government’s failure to address the welfare of Nigerian workers. Falz’s public show of support for the protesters has earned him praise from many Nigerians who see him as a voice for the voiceless.
