Fans of popular Nigerian singer, Davido have taken to social media to express their reactions after a recent video surfaced of him giving American streamer, Kai Cenat a lesson on Nigerian culture during their hangout in Lagos.
In the video posted on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, Davido is seen explaining to Kai Cenat that Nigeria consists of three major tribes: Yoruba, which he hails from, Benin, where his mother comes from, and Igbo, which is his wife’s tribe.
However, Davido’s comments have sparked controversy among fans, with many expressing their disappointment and questioning whether he has forgotten about other tribes in Nigeria.
One Twitter user wrote, “What does he mean by 3 tribes in Nigeria this is an insult to other tribes. It’s time Davido closes his mouth.”
Another user tweeted, “Every foreigner with little information about Nigeria now after watching this will think there are only 3 tribes in Nigeria. How could he discredit the rest??!!!.”
While some fans defended Davido, stating that his intentions were not malicious and that he was simply providing a basic overview to a foreign visitor, others called for more inclusive representations of Nigerian culture in mainstream media.
