There were a lot of reactions from Nigerians following the announcement of the Grammy Awards. Moreover, a majority of Nigerians were nominated under the newly included African category.

Nigerians that were nominated were Burna Boy in 4 categories: Best Global Music Album for I Told Them, Best Global Music Performance for (Alone), and Best Melodic Rap Performance. Davido with 3 categories in Best Global Music Album, Best Global Music Performance and Best African Music Performance.

Other Nigerians were nominated in the new category called the African Music Performance Award where Asake and Olamide’s Amapiano, Ayra Starr’s Rush, Burna Boy’s City Boys, and Davido featuring Musa Keys’ Unavailable were nominated. The results were that Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, Ayra Starr and Olamide did not win any of their nominations as Tyla’s Water reigned supreme.

Nigerians have expressed a range of reactions to the unexpected outcome. Davido lost his three Grammy nominations, and the Nigerian music industry was left disappointed. Social media platforms were abuzz with discussions and reactions to Tyla’s victory over the Nigerian artists such as Burna Boy, Tems, Ayra Starr, and Olamide.

They shared their thoughts on social media with some saying that in the future AFCON match, Nigerians would win against Tyla’s home country, South Africa.
