A new biographical film chronicling the life and legacy of the late Oyo political icon, Chief Michael Koleosho, titled “Babalaje“, is set to premiere on September 2, 2025, exactly one year after his passing.
Produced by Seun Oloketuyi, Babalaje traces Koleosho’s remarkable journey from the rustic town of Saki to the highest echelons of political influence in Oyo State. With a career spanning over four decades, the film captures the life of a man revered not only for his political tenacity but also for his service-driven leadership.
Oloketuyi said the film is more than just a tribute, it’s a vehicle to educate and inspire young Nigerians.
“Chief Koleosho’s story is rich with lessons in integrity, resilience, and leadership. We want young people to see what’s possible when you dedicate your life to public service,” he said.
The premiere date holds symbolic weight as it coincides with the one-year remembrance of Koleosho’s death in 2024 at the age of 86. In addition to the premiere, commemorative events are also being planned in Abuja and Ibadan.
An impressive ensemble cast brings Koleosho’s story to life, including Femi Branch, Joke Muyiwa, Biola Adebayo, Ayo Mogaji, Yemi Sodimu, and Bolaji ‘Mr. Latin’ Amusan.
Born and raised in Saki, Koleosho began his career in the civil service, eventually becoming the head of the health department of the old Saki District Council. He later ventured into entrepreneurship, founding Esmak Nigeria Limited, a company involved in commodity distribution, transportation, real estate, and hospitality.
His political career was no less groundbreaking. Elected unopposed as a councilor in 1976, he rose to become a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly in 1979, representing the Ifedapo constituency under the Unity Party of Nigeria led by Chief Obafemi Awolowo. He later served as Secretary to the State Government from 1999 to 2003 under Governor Lamidi Adesina.
