Yesterday, Turntable Charts presented Fido with a plaque to honor his song reaching the number one spot on the Official Nigeria Top 100 charts. It rose four spots to rank above Davido’s Funds, Wizkid’s Kese, Burna Boy’s Bundle By Bundle and Ruger’s Toma Toma. Joy is Coming is Fido’s first number one single on the charts as Awolowo peaked at the number 3 position.
The Turntable charts features the biggest songs in Nigeria across all streaming platforms and airplay round the country for the week, and Fido’s plaque was for being the number one song from December 27 2024 to January 2 2025. the song also debuted at number 5 on the Billboard U.S Afrobeats songs chart. It also got recognized by Boomplay Nigeria for doing 3 million streams in 7 days.
Its impact on the streets and on social media can also not be denied or ignored. It’s been the sound track behind almost every story post or reel posted on social media apps in recent times, and looks to be the sound track for the new year. Fido’s release has become people’s way of declaring Joy and good things into their new year.
He’s making songs that are relatable, and people are connecting heavily on social media and streaming platforms. Fido has scored the first hit song of the year with relatability. Looking at how last year ended, it looked like the first hit of the year would be based on sounds similar to “gbedu”. It looked like the industry was gravitating to an up-tempo vibe, and lamba looked to be the new cool.
On one hand, we might have a newer version of Jaywon’s “This Year”. Fido might have a recurring hit song every new year, and he just might be luckier than Jaywon. While Jaywon had his moment on the streets, Fido is having his on the charts. This automatically means more money and more longevity.

He has a big opportunity to go ahead of the other breakout acts of 2024, and transition properly.
