Fireboy DML’s Peru Hits 2× Platinum Status in the U.S., Selling Over 2.2 Million Units

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Fireboy DML continues to make history on the global stage as his smash hit Peru surpasses 2.2 million units in sales in the United States. This milestone officially makes the song eligible for 2× Platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Originally released in July 2021, Peru quickly became a viral hit, earning widespread acclaim for its infectious melody, smooth vocals, and relatable lyrics. However, its global dominance skyrocketed after British pop star Ed Sheeran jumped on the remix, introducing the track to an even wider audience. The remix achieved massive streaming numbers, climbed the Billboard Hot 100, and solidified Fireboy as one of Afrobeats’ most promising global exports.

Peru’s Impact and Fireboy’s Growing Legacy

The success of Peru marks a significant milestone in Nigerian music history, as it joins a select few Afrobeats songs to achieve multi-platinum status in the U.S. This achievement further highlights the growing influence of Afrobeats on the global music scene, with Fireboy DML standing out as a key player in the movement.

With this feat, Fireboy DML continues to push boundaries, cementing his place among Nigeria’s biggest international stars, alongside Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Tems. His ability to fuse Afrobeats, R&B, and pop influences has resonated with audiences worldwide, and Peru remains a testament to his versatility and artistic growth.

What’s Next for Fireboy?

As fans celebrate this double platinum milestone, anticipation is high for new music from Fireboy DML. With his fourth studio album, Adedamola, recently released, and exciting collaborations in the pipeline (including a rumored joint EP with Lojay), it’s clear that Fireboy is far from slowing down.

With Peru achieving global dominance, there’s no doubt that Fireboy DML’s journey to Afrobeats superstardom is just getting started.
