Nigerian highlife star Chinedu Okoli, popularly known as Flavour, has opened up about a defining moment in his early career and how the iconic P-Square duo played a key role in shaping his path in the music industry.
Speaking during a recent episode of the In My Opinion podcast, Flavour recounted an encounter from years ago that left a lasting impression on him. At the time, Flavour was performing on stage when P-Square, then one of the biggest names in Nigerian music, arrived at the venue. According to the Big Baller crooner, the manager immediately asked him to stop playing and hand over the microphone to the twin brothers.
Flavour recalled how the atmosphere changed the moment Paul Okoye sang their hit line “This na temptation”, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Watching the overwhelming reaction, Flavour admitted it made him reflect on his own career path.
He explained that while he had always been a talented performer and singer, the encounter made him realize the importance of creating original music. “That was when it started to dawn on me that these guys create their own sound, they go to the studio, and that’s how it’s done. Meanwhile, I was just a music man, and the challenge was figuring out how to switch from a performer to a true recording artist,” Flavour shared.
