Universal Music Group, the organizer of the Grammy Awards, has announced the cancellation of all events leading up to and after the ceremony.

The decision was made to redirect resources towards supporting those affected by the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in California.

In a statement shared on Instagram, the group expressed gratitude to first responders and emergency personnel for their tireless efforts. They also acknowledged Los Angeles as home to many in the music community, emphasizing their commitment to supporting artistes, teams, and residents affected by the wildfires.

The cancelled events include the artist showcase and after-Grammy party. This move comes as wildfires continue to ravage Los Angeles, forcing over 180,000 residents out of their homes.

Nigerian celebrities, including actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and reality TV star Faith Morey, have been affected by the wildfires. Omotola, who resides in the US, recently returned to Nigeria after evacuating her city, while Faith Morey shared a harrowing video of her 20-minute evacuation ordeal.

The Grammy Awards have a significant connection to Nigeria, with artistes like Wizkid and Burna Boy having won the prestigious award in the past, however, the cancellation was necessary.
