Nigerian singer, Korede Bello has shared his past experiences with smoking, attributing his early exposure to his environment and family influences.

In an episode of the Say My Piece podcast, hosted by actress Lolo1, the Godwin hitmaker recounted how growing up around his father’s smoking habits led him to start smoking at a young age.

Bello revealed that his father, who was a heavy smoker, often sent him to buy cigarettes but also warned him about the dangers of smoking. “My dad used to smoke a lot of cigarettes and as a child, he used to send me to get him cigarettes. I noticed something then, he used to cough a lot so I’d ask him ‘Daddy why are you coughing?’ and he’d tell me ‘It’s because of the cigarette. So if you don’t wanna cough like me, don’t smoke’,” Bello recalled.

Despite this early exposure, Bello eventually realized that smoking wasn’t for him. He acknowledged his addictive personality and the potential dangers of developing harmful habits. “I tried weed before but it’s not my thing. Very early on in my life, I mean not in my life like when I was a child, but it was just something that people did around me also and this is something about myself I have a very addictive personality so whatever I find pleasurable it can turn into an addiction,” he explained.

Bello credits his father’s warnings and his own experiences for shaping his views on smoking, ultimately leading him to quit the habit.
