Legendary Nigerian music icon, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey, has once again set the record straight, firmly denying widespread rumours of his death that surfaced on social media over the weekend.
In a defiant and heartfelt video posted on his official platforms, the 83-year-old Juju music maestro assured fans and well-wishers that he is very much alive, healthy, and, in his own words, “dey kampe”—a popular Nigerian slang meaning he’s standing strong.
“Fake news started circulating a few hours ago that I had passed on,” Obey said. “It is a pure lie. I am alive. And that is not what Jesus has written about me. What Jesus has written is what will come to pass.”
Calling the death hoax “false and misleading,” Obey urged the public to disregard the reports and not give in to panic or misinformation. He emphasized that, as far as divine timing goes, “my time is not up yet.”
The music legend also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the countless fans, family members, and friends who reached out to confirm his well-being. “Thank you to all the people who have been calling. I am alive,” he said, reassuring supporters that he’s not only surviving but thriving.
This isn’t the first time Obey has had to confront false death rumours. Back in 2020, similar fake news made rounds online, prompting the icon to publicly debunk those claims as well.
Still active and full of life at 83, Obey recently celebrated his birthday with loved ones and supporters, a testament to his enduring legacy and resilience.
