Nigerian rapper OdumoduBlvck has shared a candid perspective on his relationship with music, revealing that while he doesn’t “love” it, he considers it a reliable friend that rewards the hard work he puts in.
In a recent interview, the award-winning artist explained that his success isn’t built on a deep emotional attachment to music, but rather on the dedication and effort he invests in his craft. “I don’t love music, but we are friends,” OdumoduBlvck confessed. “Music is a stand-up guy… When it says it will do something, I know it will do it. Whatever work you put in, music will give back and won’t cheat you.”
The rapper continued, emphasizing that his relationship with music is transactional. “Music on its own has not gone out of its way to do anything for me. It’s the same work that I put in that it reciprocates, and I don’t have any problem with that. So, music shouldn’t have any issue with me telling her I don’t love her.”
Despite his pragmatic approach to his art, OdumoduBlvck’s relationship with music has clearly paid off. Since breaking into the mainstream with his hit single ‘Picanto’ featuring Zlatan, the rapper has earned a prominent place among Nigeria’s top musical talents. His bold and unique style has garnered admiration from fans and peers alike, including big names like Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Olamide, and Don Jazzy.
Internationally, OdumoduBlvck’s reputation as Nigeria’s leading rapper has grown, with notable co-signs from global hip-hop stars such as Skepta, Stormzy, and Rick Ross. His 2023 mixtape ‘EZIOKWU’ became one of the most-streamed albums by an African rapper on Spotify, spending an entire year in the platform’s top 10 charts.
