Nigerian singer Skales is setting the record straight after a social media user claimed that Burna Boy was responsible for reviving his career. The controversy erupted when a critic slammed Skales’ career as “dead,” specifically pointing to the 2017 remix of his hit song “Temper,” featuring Burna Boy, which was nominated for Best Collaboration at the 2018 Headies.
The critic didn’t hold back, stating, “This is the more reason why everyone hates you mf. Burna Boy was part of the people that helped your dead career.”
However, Skales was quick to respond, asserting that he owes his success solely to his fans and his own hard work.
“Listen, I will defend myself always. I love Burna, but don’t you ever say he helped me. No one helped me! Only my fans and God’s grace,” Skales wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “We do collaborations that benefit us both. We wouldn’t be performing together if it didn’t benefit us.”
