Nigerian actress and skit maker Lizzy Jay has opened up about the surprising twist in her career path, revealing she originally aspired to become a singer and medical doctor before stumbling into the world of comedy.
In a candid interview on Nollywood On Radio, Lizzy—known for her sharp wit and relatable content—shared that comedy wasn’t part of the plan. Her journey into skit-making, she said, began out of sheer boredom.
“Nothing was on my mind when I started making skits,” she admitted. “What was on my mind was to do music, go to school, and become a medical doctor.”
Left alone at home with just her phone for company, Lizzy decided to record a skit—just to pass the time. What started as a spontaneous pastime soon turned into a life-changing venture.
“It wasn’t like I planned or saw people doing skits and thought to copy,” she explained. “I was just bored, and I started making a skit.”
Her lighthearted videos quickly gained traction, but it was one particular post on Facebook that changed everything. The skit caught the attention of several high-profile figures, including Nollywood icon Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, who shared it on Instagram.
“That was the moment I realized this could be more than just a way to kill boredom,” Lizzy said. “When I saw celebrities reposting my content, I thought, maybe I should really continue this.”
Since then, Lizzy Jay has carved out a successful path in both comedy and acting. After gaining recognition through her viral skits, she seamlessly transitioned into Nollywood, with roles in films like Dear Affy, Dubara, and The Order of Things.
