Nigerian music star Kcee is calling on his peers in the music industry to show greater support for Nollywood, stressing the need for stronger collaboration between the country’s top entertainers.
In a recent interview with HipTV, the ‘Ojapiano’ crooner made a passionate appeal to fellow artistes to step up and back Nigeria’s booming film industry, just as actors often appear in music videos to boost song visibility.
“It is high time we support the movie industry,” said the 46-year-old singer. “For me, Kcee, those who know me know that I do not watch any other movies apart from Nollywood. I’m so into Nollywood movies. Sometimes, people laugh at me for it.”
Kcee, whose real name is Kingsley Chinweike Okonkwo, shared a recent example of his support, revealing that he allowed a filmmaker to use his song Cultural Praise in a movie—free of charge. “She can testify. That is the support,” he added.
The artist emphasized that while Nollywood stars often appear in music videos and enthusiastically promote musicians’ work, the reverse is rare. He believes it’s time for musicians to return the favor.
“We can even promote their movies on our social media handles,” he said, admitting that even he hasn’t done enough but plans to do better. “Randomly, you see them jumping on our projects, and I think it would not be a crime if we do the same.”
