Veteran music producer, Olamide Oguntade, widely known as ID Cabasa, has recounted his touching experience with Nigerian rapper, Olamide, including the emotional moment when Olamide left his record label.
During an interview on Media Personality, Adesope’s Afrobeat podcast on Thursday, May 16, 2024, ID Cabasa revealed that he first met Olamide when the rapper was just 13 years old.
ID Cabasa described Olamide‘s departure from his label as a heartbreaking experience, likening the young artist to a son. “When Olamide wanted to leave, I cried because it was painful news for me,” he said, emphasizing the deep bond they shared.
Reflecting on their early days, ID Cabasa recalled Olamide’s first visit to his studio. Despite being young and unassuming, Olamide’s talent was undeniable. “He did 16 bars and changed the entire song that my friend and I were planning to record,” the producer remembered, showcasing the budding star’s remarkable skills.
Currently planning a remix of the hit song Olufunmi, ID Cabasa also expressed his views on fellow artist Burna Boy, suggesting that a documentary on Olamide, affectionately known as Baddo, would be valuable. “It would be a good thing to have a documentary on Baddo for many to learn and see what he went through,” he opined, highlighting Olamide’s journey and the lessons it holds.
