Nigerian singer Jaywon has apologized to Ayra Starr following intense backlash on social media for allegedly shading her over her snub at the 2025 Grammy nominations.

Jaywon took to X to extend his apology, expressing admiration for Ayra Starr’s music and vocal talent. He described her as one of Africa’s most gifted female vocalists.

In his tweet, Jaywon wrote: “If you see Ayra Starr, tell her I’m sorry she wasn’t nominated for this year’s Grammys. I’m a huge fan of her music, and I believe she’s one of the best female vocalists Africa has.”

He added: “On this side, we don’t pull people down. We elevate, not just for today, but for the future.”

Meanwhile, Jaywon’s apology comes after facing criticism online for his initial comments, which many interpreted as dismissive of Ayra Starr’s accomplishments.

By apologizing and praising the singer’s talent, Jaywon aims to show support for Ayra Starr and promote unity within the music industry.

If you see Ayra Starr, tell her I’m sorry she wasn’t nominated for this year’s Grammys. I’m a huge fan of her music, and I believe she’s one of the best female vocalists Africa has. On this side, we don’t pull people down. We elevate, not just for today, but for the future. Ola…
