Meet Joshua Morris, an indie muso from Cape Town who makes his debut with a bedroom pop offering titled “Make You Mine”.

An indie-pop jab at the futility of possession, drawing comparisons to artists like Franc Moody, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and a sunny King Krule (as Morris likes to say), the single was mastered by Mike Zietsman (PHFAT) and mixed by Josh Berry (Honeymoan).

With a cool beat and slick rhythmic production, “Make You Mine” moves at steady speed, while Morris’ understated vocal delivery is the perfectly soothing accompaniment. His voice blends into its surroundings before fading away completely, making way for an electro-synth arrangement to close things out.

You might not say so at first, but Morris has something quirky about him, a curious and strangely eccentric nature. It comes through in the accompanying music video, directed by Dan Lewis Cole, where the songwriter gives an almost awkward performance, stood unflinching in various parts of Cape Town.

It’s this energy that gives Morris a distinct edge. It feels like he’s holding his cards close to his chest at the moment, making an elusive debut that will leave listeners decidedly intrigued. What he does next is anyone’s guess.
