Kabusa Oriental Choir is excited to announce the release of their new single, “Cannabi”. Known for their unique pop style and energetic performances, Kabusa Oriental Choir brings something truly special with this release.

“Cannabi” is an original, vibrant track that shines a light on the group’s creative journey, written by Austin Nwamara and produced by David Acekeyz. The song was first dreamed up when Austin sent David a WhatsApp voice note with a catchy pop idea. Just a week later, David shared a lively instrumental beat, and soon after, “Cannabi” was born.

The recording sessions for “Cannabi” took place in both Lagos and Abuja, Nigeria, capturing the busy spirit of both cities. The choir travelled to Lagos for a performance at Club Quilox, and the very next day, they went into the studio to lay down the track before heading to Abuja to start rehearsals for their upcoming tour. Recording the song in Lagos, a city known for its fast pace and high energy, made perfect sense, as the team channelled their feelings of stress and the need for escape into the music.

This new single stands out as a genre-bending masterpiece that blends pop with exciting Caribbean sounds, inspired by well-known tracks like “Particular” by Major Lazer and “Lean On” by DJ Snake, Major Lazer, and MO. The song also gives off the vibrant party mood you hear in hits like “Love Is Wicked” by Brick & Lace and “Turn Me On” by Kevin Lyttle. “Cannabi” delivers the feeling of eating ice cream or drinking cold water on a summer beach, offering listeners a refreshing break from their worries and daily pressures.

Kabusa Oriental Choir is known for breaking away from traditional choir music, and “Cannabi” is a perfect example. Imagine the pop hit “Umbrella” sung not by a solo artist like Taylor Swift, but by a choir, not in the usual gospel style, but with a full, modern pop twist. That is what Kabusa Oriental Choir delivers with “Cannabi.” It’s a sound you will not find anywhere else.

Lyrically, “Cannabi” is clever and full of double meanings. The song’s title may sound like a play on “weed,” but a closer listen reveals deeper messages about wanting to escape the weight of responsibilities and other people’s expectations. The original title, “Can I Be,” was changed to “Cannabi” to make it more fun and urban. The “s” was purposely left out, and the lyrics playfully hint at more than what first meets the ear.

Kabusa Oriental Choir has already performed “Cannabi” to an explosive crowd at the “Festival Weekend Aubord de l’eau” in Sierre, Switzerland. The response proves that this is a fresh, rule-breaking sound for music lovers worldwide. With “Cannabi,” Kabusa Oriental Choir is setting a new standard for innovative, boundary-pushing music. The group believes that this song, and their work in general, points to the birth of a whole new musical genre.
