Veteran Nollywood actors Kanayo O Kanayo and Madam Saje will be honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards at the upcoming 2024 Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards. The announcement was made by Seun Oloketuyi, the founder of the BON Awards, in a statement released on Friday, September 27.
The prestigious awards ceremony is slated to take place on November 24 at the Sugar Factory Film Studios in Ilorin, Kwara State. Oloketuyi emphasized the importance of celebrating film legends while they are still alive, stating,
“Why must we wait until our film heroes are dead to give them awards? Posthumous awards are commendable, but it is far more meaningful for recipients to be present to accept their honors.” Oloketuyi said
Feranmi Olaoye, executive producer of the BON Awards, echoed this sentiment, praising both Kanayo and Madam Saje, whose real name is Fausat Balogun. “They are icons we grew up watching, and they deserve to be celebrated,” Olaoye noted. “They have inspired the current generation of actors and continue to hold their ground in the industry, making them fitting recipients for this year’s Lifetime Achievement Awards.”
Previous winners of the Lifetime Achievement Award include notable Nollywood figures such as Adebayo Salami, Toyin Adegbola, and Madam Kofo, underscoring the importance of this accolade within the Nigerian film community.
Since its inception in December 2009 in Ikeja, Lagos, the BON Awards have become a cornerstone event for the Nigerian movie industry, recognizing and honoring exceptional talent. Earlier this year, the organizers announced a partnership with Group 8 Ltd, a media firm, to support the next five editions of the awards.
