Keanan Eksteen and his dynamic four-piece are back with another seething single titled “Got You Callin’” and it’s a sexy, driving rock ballad.
With a mad catchy vocal hook that brings to mind a kind of Muse meets Maroon 5 crossover (I know, just try to imagine it), Eksteen isn’t afraid to explore the limits of his own sound.
Before this, back in July of this year, Eksteen delivered a nostalgic pop-rock offering that drew influence from the likes of Fleetwood Mac and Talking Heads. While “UNDERCOVER” was proper old-school, “Got You Callin’” feels like it’s more contemporary brother, tinged by modern production and the subtle touch of Eksteen’s debonair vocals.
The track was actually conceptualised after Armand De Vries (ADV) sent Eksteen an instrumental demo, and he was hooked immediately. He added lyrics and allegedly wrote the song then and there, on the spot, while Jeremy Farber at For Tomorrow Studios once again stepped in for the mix and mastering. The rest is history, as they say.
Eksteen’s meteoric rise in 2024 has been nothing short of awe-inspiring, and he’s done so with a solid creative approach. Compositionally adept, with impressive stylistic range, Eksteen is a prolific songwriter, and his determination will take him far.
